Alma S. Melvin

Melvin, Alma S., formerly of Tea Rock Garden, Marshfield, died on Nov. l3, 2009 at the age of 99, at Coyne Healthcare in Rockland. Alma was the beloved wife of the late Ralph E. Melvin, who she married on March 2l, l942. She is the loving mother of two daughters, Bonnie Benford of Marshfield and Margaret Hart of Celerone, N.Y., Alma is also survived by a sister, Willie residing in MO., four grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ralph, two sisters Flora and Lillian and her mother and father. Alma was born and raised in Ramsey, N.J. She worked as a bookkeeper in Ramsey and as a teller at Plymouth Five Bank in MA, retiring in l986. She was involved with the Ladies Guild at Trinity Episcopal Church, Marshfield. Alma also enjoyed crafting and her grandchildren. Funeral service at the MacDonald Funeral Home, l755 Ocean St.,rte. l39, Marshfield on Tuesday, Nov. l7 at l0 a.m.

Visiting hours on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Interment Winslow Cemetery, Marshfield.

JOHN J. FARRELL

This is to let you know that Margaret Farrell's brother died recently.  What follows is the obituary from the website of the funeral home.  Please keep Margaret in your prayers.

BUZZARDS BAY - John J. Farrell, 80, of Buzzards Bay, died Sept. 1, 2009 in Jordan Hospital, Plymouth. He was the widower of the late Helen S. (Stephenson) Farrell who died May 30th and was the son of the late Joseph William & Eleanor (Morris) Farrell.

 

Born in Norwood, Mr. Farrell lived in Dedham, Natick, and Southboro before moving to his summer home in Buzzards Bay in 1971. A graduate of Dedham High School, where was captain of the football team and then graduated from Fitchburg State College where he played on its undefeated soccer team in 1952.

 

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

 

Mr. Farrell was an industrial arts teacher; he taught for the Natick, Framingham, Bourne and New Bedford school systems for many years before retiring. In 1975, he was awarded Teacher of the Year by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for his outstanding work. In 1996 he was awarded the Unsung Achievement Award by the Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber of Commerce.

 

He was a member of St. Peter’s Church on the Canal, the Dewitt Clinton Lodge, A.F. & A.M. in Sandwich, and a member and past master of the former St. Bernard’s Lodge, A.F. & A.M. in Southboro. He was inducted into the Fitchburg State College Hall of Fame in 2008. He was also a member of the Mass Teachers Association and the Retired State Employees Assoc.

 

Survivors include three sons, Christopher J. Farrell of Bourne, Scott J. Farrell and his wife Linda of Plymouth and Jay S. Farrell of Bourne; his sister, Margaret E. Fishwick of Hanover; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, the late Sallie S. Farrell.

 

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wed., September 9, 2009 at St. Peter’s Church on the Canal, 165 Main St., Buzzards Bay. Burial will follow in the Mass National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., (Rte.28), Wareham.

Mary R. (Fink) Hahn
April 18, 2009

Mary R. Hahn (Fink) passed away peacefully at her Marshfield home surrounded by her loving family on April 18 at the age of 66. Born in Fond du Lac, WI. Mary has lived in Marshfield with her husband for the past 39 years. She was an active member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Marshfield and was a preschool teacher at Steeple School, Marshfield and the Magic Dragon School in Duxbury. She enjoyed playing tennis, boating, cooking, and especially, walking her dogs. Her five granddaughters consumed most of her time, as they were her true love, and she theirs.

She was the beloved wife of William D. Hahn. Loving mother of Jonathan W. Hahn and his wife Susan of Norwell and Jill C. Mandile and her husband Brian of Marshfield. Nana of Gillian and Mallory Hahn and Alexandra, Margaret and Katherine Mandile. Dear sister John (Jan) Fink of Ogdensburg, WI., Charles (Barb) Fink of Milwaukee, WI., Marvin (Patti) Fink of Fond du Lac, WI., Margaret (Gary) Pelkey of Van Dyne, WI. And Alan Fink of N. Fond du Lac, WI. Also survived by 10 nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday April 21, at the MacDonald Funeral Home 1755 Ocean St (Rte 139) Marshfield from 4 to 8 pm.

A funeral Service will be at the Trinity Episcopal Church Highland St Marshfield, Wednesday at 11 am.

Interment in the Resurrection Garden Trinity Episcopal Church.

                   ALDEN CHARLES JOHNSON
                                 (1942 - 2008)

Alden Charles Johnson entered into rest July 8th. Born in Dorchester, raised in Milton, he lived in Marshfield for 35 years. He was a Chemical and Metallurgical Engineer, holding several patents.

With his wife, he ran Woolyvale Farm on Union Street raising vegetables, fruits, sheep and trees. Also a true craftsman, all his barns were made using home grown milled wood he cut from his own property. He was chairman of the Marshfield Agricultural Commission.

Mr. Johnson was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Marshfield Hills, having served as a vestry member, junior warden, and currently as a Eucharistic Minister.

He was an active alumnus of William Lawrence Camp, Center Tuftonboro, New Hampshire, serving on the Board of Directors. He, his father and his son all attended the boys camp.

Mr. Johnson was the beloved husband of Margaret Ann (Porteus) Johnson and devoted father to Kenneth Alden Johnson and his wife Nancy and Elizabeth Ann Roguet and her husband Olivier. He was a loving grandfather to Margot Sophie and Alexander Lawrence Roguet and Margaretta Diane Johnson.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, July 13th from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at MacDonald Funeral Home 1755 Ocean Street, Marshfield. A celebration of his life will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 229 Highland Street, Marshfield on Monday July 14th at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Couch Memorial Cemetery on Union Street.

"Creighton-Roland Archer of Bourne and E. Bridgewater, died on Aug. 30, 2008, age 78, surrounded by family at Bourne Manor Nursing Home following a brief illness. Husband of the late Patricia L. (Nilsen). Born in Winthrop, he was raised in Quincy and graduated from Quincy North H.S. He lived in E. Bridgewater for 6 years before moving to Bourne a year ago. He worked for various South Shore car dealerships as a parts and service manager. U.S. Army Veteran, Korea. Roland enjoyed the outdoors and spending time working on cars. Devoted father of Susan Creighton of Brockton, Christine Dempsey of Plymouth and Nancy Munie of Quincy. Grandfather of Stefani, Erik and Garrett Dempsey. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Brother of the late Wilfred Creighton. Son of the late Wilfred and Margaret (Robinson) Creighton. Fletcher, Donna M., of Marshfield Ma. 47 years old. Died August 29, 2008. beloved wife of Charles W. Fletcher. Loving mother of Kayla and Ali Fletcher. Daughter of Donald C. Davis and Barbara ( Brown ) Davis. Daughter in- law of the late Albert and Thelma Fletcher. Sister of Theresa Davis, Maureen Davis, Kevin Davis, Kenneth Davis, Karen Davis, Donald Davis, all of Marshfield, and Stephen Davis of Carver. Donna was a 1979 graduate of Marshfield High School.
